When Jemma Harris inherits a house in Palmer, Alaska, she quits her tedious corporate job and catches the next plane out of Atlanta. She’s going to rehab furniture in her garage and sell her creations. Jemma needs everything to go perfectly during this short Alaskan summer, but her neighbor isn’t cooperating.

Marketing expert Nathaniel Montgomery lives on the outskirts of small-town Palmer and enjoys working at home. Then the new owner of the house across the street begins using noisy power tools and disrupting his life. His challenging childhood leaves him unable to love, until a stray puppy begins to thaw his heart.

Get ready to fall, because FALLING FOR ALASKA, a new romance by Shannon L. Brown, will have you swooning over The Last Frontier and the romance in its crisp northern air.

Jemma Harris is doing her best to get her furniture flipping business on its feet. Newly relocated to the home left to her by her great-aunt, Jemma is finding the transition from corporate city life to small town entrepreneurship more challenging than she’d anticipated.

It doesn’t help that her one neighbor, a handsome business consultant named Nathaniel Montgomery, is not only rude but downright insulting about her business.

From Nathaniel’s point of view, the new neighbor might be cute, but between her ongoing power tool noise pollution and her penchant for problems, she’s done nothing but disrupt his peace since she got there. How is he supposed to get any sleep, or any work done, with the constant loud reminders of her presence?

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that these two have a hard time avoiding each other, or denying their attraction. The fun is in seeing how they overcome their various obstacles on the way to figuring out if they’re right for each other.

From the start, I rooted for Jemma and her creative, unique business plan. It sounds like the perfect life, doesn’t it? Living in a quaint old house (with no mortgage payments—just try to top that for perfection), getting to be creative all day with no boss to answer to, and being surrounded by stunning Alaska scenery. If course, her life isn’t perfect, and I loved the unpredictability of the complications that come her way.

Nathaniel doesn’t make himself easy to like, but the glimpses we get of his past offer enough explanation for readers to develop sympathy for him. His character starts off with a long way to go to earn a Mr.-Nice-Guy badge, but he was written in a way that made me want to be in his corner anyway.

This is a fun romance with a lot of heart. And if it might just get you thinking about how you could repurpose some of your own cast-offs. Furniture, that is. Not romances.
