If you think you’re in for just another standard romance, think again. SAFE IN HIS ARMS by Melanie D. Snitker is a romantic suspense that will keep you looking over your shoulder.
The story opens with Anna on the run from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Liam. She plants herself in a small town in Texas, thinking she’s hidden well enough to prevent Liam from finding her. Having left her home with very little other than an old van she got as a trade-in on her car and her mammoth Great Pyrenees named Epic, Anna has little choice but to live in her van while she earns the money to start fresh. When the job she finds at a local diner comes equipped with a handsome and intriguing boss, her plans take an unexpected turn.
At first, Joel denies his attraction to his mysterious new employee. What he can’t deny is the strange feeling of protectiveness he feels for her. His concern for her well-being leads him to discover her unique living arrangement, which only heightens his desire to keep her safe. Still, Joel has no idea how real and immediate the danger she faces has become.
Okay, I have to admit to really enjoying the scenes where Anna was forced to sleep in her car. Who hasn’t worried that they might someday be faced with that kind of situation? I loved the feeling of danger in her circumstances, but I also enjoyed seeing how she took it in stride, staying hopeful even in the face of something so uncertain.
This book gave me that feeling I want all books to give me. That feeling of wanting to pick it up whenever I could dedicate a minute or two to reading. And looking forward to having time to pick it up again. That’s probably the highest compliment one can give to an author, and I will definitely be picking up more books written by Melanie. I’m happy to see that she has several, and that more are in the works for this series. I’ll be watching for them!
