Sadie felt the bullet whiz by her head as she crouched down in the wet dirt. Darkness surrounded her, but she wasn’t alone. Her gut screamed loudly that something was terribly wrong. And she always trusted her gut. She had company, and if that bullet was any indication, they meant business. The sound of the crackling leaves told her someone was moving quickly in her direction.
Dressed in all black, she lay flat on the ground in the dark woods. No one was going to see her. That bullet wasn’t meant for her but was intended for someone else. Who? She didn’t want to stick around long enough to find out. She prayed that Megan wasn’t out here in the woods tonight—alone, scared and with bullets flying. It was no place for a sixteen-year-old girl.
Let’s get to know Rachel Dylan, author of the new Romantic Suspense novel, “Out of Hiding”:
What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always loved to read and write. When I was a child, I read tons of books and especially loved writing poetry. Not until I was an adult did I write a novel.
Where do you get your ideas?
It’s funny because I didn’t realize how crazy my imagination was until I found out that other people don’t come up with the scenarios that I do. But it works for romantic suspense to have that type of active imagination.
Where do you write?
Usually at my kitchen table. Often with a cat editor very close by. The cats often decide to “help” me write and edit.
How important is social media to you, and what sites do you use?
I love social media. Probably because I’m always behind a computer. I am active on Facebook and Twitter, and I love interacting with people.
How do you measure your success as a writer?
What touches me the most is when someone is positively impacted by my writing.
What are your hobbies (other than writing)?
Reading, music, and animal rescue. I love my furkids.
Is there a special story about one of your books that you’d like to share?
I wrote “Out of Hiding” during a time of grief after my father’s passing. It’s the most special thing I’ve ever written because of that.
