Whole30 Day 13: Cravings

March 6, 2016

So when does the suffering start?

Young hungry woman in front of refrigerator craving chocolate pastries.

Every time I’ve been on any kind of elimination diet, I’ve gone through a phase of obsessing over whatever food I can’t have. You know, chocolate, salt, bread, chocolate…

Since we started the Whole30 plan, I’ve been waiting for one of those cravings to pry its way through my good intentions, but so far I’m pleased to report that it hasn’t happened. That to me is a sign that the food we’re eating is satisfying us both nutritionally and emotionally.

The little bit of research that I did on food cravings reminded me that they happen for a reason and shouldn’t be ignored. Here’s a very helpful chart that could tell you what your body needs if you’re craving a certain thing:

The Food Craving Chart

So now that you have this handy chart, I just bet that the next time you’re craving sweets you’re going to head straight to the fridge for some calves liver, right? Yeah. Me neither. But I do think some fruit or nuts could do the trick.

I know I for one am keeping that chart bookmarked.  Things are going great, but the Whole30 ship hasn’t docked yet.
